ALPHA 360

Finding Faults on Overhead MV Networks

The ALPHA 360 is a self-resetting fault indicator which detects Permanent and Transient Faults on overhead line networks. The unit now has a built in GPRS modem for communication with iHost.

Finding the Fault Location

When a fault occurs on an MV feeder, units between the source breaker and the fault location will indicate the route taken by fault current by flashing their LED banks. Units beyond the fault, not on the fault path, will not flash their LED banks.
The location of the faulty section is quickly identified between the last "flashing" unit and the first "non flashing" unit.

Embedded GPRS Communications

The ALPHA 360 has an onboard GPRS modem. It contacts the Central iHost Platform whenever MV Faults are detected overhead. Units on the route to fault report "Permanent Fault" or "Transient Fault". These events are reported to iHost and then passed to the Control Room Network Management System.

When the MV Supply is restored units stop flashing the LEDs and then reports a "Fault Reset" condition to the Central iHost Platform.
